During the final days of college and beginning days of what is known to most as reality, Spencer Miles called his old neighbor and long time chap Joey Palestina on the phone and without hesitation said "lets start a band instead of doing whatever it is we do all day." Working out of Spens basement (The Aquatics Studio, Glen Ridge, NJ), the early sessions of Thing One were centered around old school rap and layers of trip hop, jazz and funk; lyrics that were driven by old stories and reminiscing times as it was a point in their life when the boys we're feeling the doom and gloom of post collegiate life. Throughout the years and progression of the band Thing One has managed to play musical chairs on the "music scene" switching their sound from conscience live hip hop to indie dance rock, or perhaps indie trip hop glam rock electro funk for all the obsessive myspace people, or maybe just sweat rock to anyone's that's seem them play live. They've had the pleasure of playing with Spen Miles brothers band Ra Ra Riot and reggae buzz act Matisyahu and a reputation of bringing packed crowds to venues such as Bowery Ballroom, Maxwell's, Mercury Lounge, Knitting Factory and have recently finished a residency at Pianos.
